About Orchid Society
of Assam

Nestled in the verdant heart of Northeast India, where the Brahmaputra winds through ancient forests, we stand as guardians of one of the world's most extraordinary floral heritages.

For over three decades, we have championed the conservation, research, and celebration of Assam's magnificent orchid diversity — a living treasure cherished by naturalists the world over.

Orchids of Assam a Living Treasure

Assam harbors over 400 recorded orchid species across its rich tapestry of rainforests, wetlands, and highland meadows. From the misty slopes of the Eastern Himalayas to the floodplains of the Brahmaputra, these exquisite blooms represent an unparalleled botanical legacy.

The state's unique geographical position — at the confluence of the Indo-Malayan, Indian, and Sino-Himalayan floral zones — creates conditions of extraordinary biodiversity. Orchids here serve not only as objects of beauty but as vital ecological indicators and keystone species in their respective habitats.

“To know the orchids of Assam is to know the soul of the subcontinent's most enchanting wilderness.”

A MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIETY

Welcome

Dear Orchid Enthusiasts, Nature Lovers, Conservationists, and Researchers,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Orchid Society of Assam. Since our establishment in 2018, we have been dedicated to the conservation of native orchids through awareness programs, seminars, conferences, and rescue efforts against illegal collection. Our society serves as a vibrant platform for all who wish to explore the beauty of orchids, the richness of nature, and the importance of conservation.

Our mission is clear: to protect and preserve the native orchids of Assam and neighboring states. We are proud to have members from across India and Nepal who share this passion and work tirelessly toward our common goal. Propagation and reintroduction of orchids into their natural habitats remain at the heart of our efforts.

Beyond conservation, the society actively engages in research and knowledge-sharing. We publish the Himalayan Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences and the edited volume Aranyakeru, contributing to scientific understanding and awareness. Looking ahead, our long-term vision is to establish a dedicated rescue and propagation center for orchids, ensuring their survival for generations to come.

Together, let us continue this journey of discovery, conservation, and reverence for the natural world.
